The days are getting shorter day by day. What are you doing during these long nights in the fall? I love to read books with a hot drink in bed! Now I’m crazy about making fruit compot and reading! I made pear compot again today too;)
Today’s topic is the sounds of insects in the fall. I don’t like insects, but the sounds of insects in the fall are really great! I like them. Many kinds of insects start to sing in the fall. I love to hear that because insects singing tells me it’s time to start the fall. The sounds are comforting; many Japanese people enjoy the sounds of insects. It has been documented that Japanese people were interested in the sounds of insects since the beginning of our written history.
I can find many results when search the term “sounds of insects in the fall” in haikus (traditional Japanese short poems). This expression is often used in other famous literature as well. The term “sounds of insects” conjures images of autumn in Japanese.

I read articles that say that western people don’t interpret the sounds of insects in such a positive light. Is this true? It seems only Japanese and Polynesians interpret the sounds this way. I think you don’t know what you’re missing 🙂 I hope that you will enjoy the transition of the seasons by listening to the insects singing at night in the fall!
